It’s no secret: having cold feet is the worst. Especially in the winter months. Fuzzy cotton and thick wool can only do so much on their own, so heated socks are the best way to get warmth when your own body heat isn’t enough.
We found and tested some of the most popular heated socks available today and put them through the test — doing chores around the house, spending time on roadtrips, going out hiking, and more — to see how they actually performed. The heated socks below are the best we found for warmth, comfort, design, and other features after weeks of testing.
They heat up immediately and remain at the same temperature without fluctuations.
The battery pack is bulky, which can make them uncomfortable for certain activities.
Available in black and gray, the Daywolf Bluetooth Enabled Mobile Warming Heated Socks are easy to use and are sure to keep you comfortable wherever you go. During our testing, we found them to be very easy to use; you can control the temperature levels through the socks or via a Bluetooth app, which is extremely useful when outdoors or in extremely cold conditions. You can connect the socks together or control them individually, allowing for different temperatures for each foot. The heating elements, located at the toes, instep, and forefoot, warmed up quickly and stayed warm for as long as we had the heating elements turned on. We found that they felt warmer when worn with shoes and the highest heat setting is quite hot, making them great for extremely cold weather.
The socks are made with high-quality materials and feel thick, but not itchy or scratchy. They reach up to just under the knees and fit snug without rolling down. Although the battery pack kept our feet cozy for extended periods, it felt bulky, which makes the socks a bit uncomfortable when crossing your legs or engaging in certain activities.

The heating elements cover most of the foot.
The placement of the battery packs tend to make the socks roll down.
We tested the Gerbing 7V Battery Heated Socks during cold-weather hikes, long walks, and around the house. The setup instructions were clear and the socks were easy to operate. They offer three heating levels, which are controlled through a button on the socks. They heat up within seconds and take about one minute to reach the highest temperature. The warmth covers most of the foot and feels consistent throughout use. The batteries lasted for the advertised time and they’re securely held in pouches near the top of the socks (though that location does tend to pull the socks down a bit).
The socks feel thin and stretchy, they’re breathable, lightweight, and comfortable for extended wear. They also have Velcro straps for adjustment and come with a special bag for machine washing. After washing, we saw no signs of shrinking or wear and tear.

The battery lasts for many hours.
They are hand-wash only, which can be a hassle for some customers.
We found the Snow Deer Upgraded Rechargeable Electric Heated Socks to be the most comfortable socks among the ones we tested. They’re pretty tall and have easy-to-access controlling buttons at the top. They warm up quickly, reaching full heat within one minute. The temperature levels remained stable, without fluctuations or overly hot spots. Although the heating elements are only at the toe box, they kept our feet really cozy. The battery life is long, so we didn't have to worry about charging them often.
Available in four styles for men and women, the Snow Deer socks felt thick and tight around the calves, so we didn’t have to deal with the nuisance of them rolling down. They come with reinforced toes and heels, making them perfect for skiing, snowboarding, and other winter sports.
The Details: Size S-XL | Polyester, elastic, and spandex | 100-131 degrees Fahrenheit | Up to 10 hours of battery
The battery packs are slim and lightweight, which is sometimes difficult to find in heated socks.
The heat doesn’t reach the arches or heels, creating a weird temperature discrepancy between these areas and the front of the foot.
The Savior Heat Heated Socks offer great comfort and high-quality features. During testing, we were able to easily control the temperature levels without any trouble. We didn’t have to fiddle with hard-to-reach buttons or bulky battery packs to set them to the desired temperature. These socks have an intuitive operating system, keeping our feet warm in icy weather conditions. We loved that we could barely notice the battery packs when moving around, as they always stayed in place.
These socks felt rugged, supportive, and comfortable, with impressive cushioning levels at the balls of the feet. There was also a noticeable amount of compression on the calves. Since they have an athletic fit, they’re great for just about any activity, including hiking, skiing, and even cycling.

They hold up well without rolling down.
They’re not very stretchy, which can make them difficult to put on, particularly at the calves.
While testing the Sun Will Electrically Heated Socks, we found them to be cozy and comfortable. The heating settings were intuitive to use and the battery packs are discreet and slim, so you can barely tell they’re there. They take about 10 minutes to warm up and they hold up well around the calves. They feel very comfortable when worn with snow boots, too. We recommend these socks for winter activities like hiking and walking rather than for sports like skiing and snowboarding as they don't do the best job at wicking away moisture. The Sun Will can be machine-washed in a bag, but the brand recommends spot cleaning with mild detergent for greater safety and longevity.

Despite some issues we found during our testing, these pairs of socks had other qualities some users may appreciate.
Antrango Rechargeable Heated Socks: We loved how thick, soft, and comfortable these socks are. However, the battery packs could use some improvement regarding size and placement.
Dr.Warm Heated Socks with APP Remote Control: They are easy to use and provide a good amount of warmth to keep your feet cozy, but their overall fit and sizing could be better.

Our Travel + Leisure testers wore each pair of socks in different scenarios and weather conditions for more than two weeks. During this testing period, they evaluated ease of use, comfort, warmth, design, and value, among other aspects.
Our reviewers wore these socks alone and with shoes to determine comfort and fit. They tested them indoors while lounging and doing house chores and outdoors while hiking, walking dogs, and other typical winter activities. So far, we have tested 20 pairs of socks total over a two year period and will continue to wear the styles to collect further insights.

Heated socks typically come with three heating levels to suit your needs. It’s crucial to ensure that the socks offer the minimum and maximum temperature levels you require. This is directly related to the environments where you plan to wear them and whether you’ll be using them alone or with shoes.
Heated socks are usually longer than regular socks because their battery pockets are located at the top. Therefore, make sure your new heated socks fit snugly around the calves to prevent them from rolling down. Additionally, they should fit comfortably on your feet to make sure your skin is in contact with the heating spots.
Most heated socks come with battery pockets at the top. Since some battery packs can be bulkier than others, you may need to consider getting a size that will fit comfortably in your winter boots and under pants.
When owning a pair of heated socks — or any other heated apparel or accessory — it’s essential to follow the brand’s instructions regarding the heating settings, batteries, and fabrics in order to extend the longevity of your socks as much as possible.
Before washing your heated socks for the first time, it’s important to check the instructions. Some heated socks are machine washable after removing the battery packs, while others require gentle hand washing. Generally, heated apparel should not go in machine dryers, so be sure to also look for that when consulting the care instructions.
Heated socks won’t necessarily improve poor circulation, but they can help relieve the effects of it, such as cold feet.
